dharma initiative

The DHARMA (Department of Heuristics And Research on Material Applications) Initiative was a scientific research project that had a large presence on the Island between the 1970s and the early 1990s. The project is represented by ...Except for maybe Guiding Light, ABC's (DIS) Lost has the largest, most complex storyline of any modern serialized drama. In just five seasons, creators Jeffrey Lieber, JJ Abrams, and Damon Lindelof. It's one of the show's signature moments: Ben Linus returns from killing his father to find the majority of the Dharma Initiative dead. There's something both beautiful and horrifying in watching the camera slowly pan over the carnage. ...... a downed Beechcraft plane from a failed drug run, the remains of an ancient statue, as well as bunkers belonging to the Dharma Initiative -- a group of scientific researchers who inhabited the island in the recent past. ...Ahhh, more Mysteries of the Universe: The Dharma Initiative. This little segment starts off with a "new series" ad for the detective show Matt Houston. This show ran from Sept 26,1982-July 19, 1985. Hi

I'm desperate. I was wondering if anyone knew where they sold TV and movie patches in Toronto, Ontario. I'm specifically looking for a few Dharma Initiative patches. I can only find places to order them from the US but I need one ASAP. Any help immediately would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

I am trying to make a Dharma Initiative (LOST tv show) costume for Halloween but I can't find plain khaki and navy coveralls. :(

websites where i can by it or shops, just where every i can by it. please.

Okay so I'm joining the Dharma Initiative for Halloween. I selected the "Swan" patch but I have to get my name and "job" sewn onto my jumpsuit. I have tried googling this to no avail. What was the official "title" sewn onto Kelvin Inman and Radzinsky's suit? Anyone.. I know there are other LOSTie nerds out there just like me but you'll have the answer I seek.

I guess if all else fails I'll have it read: Button Pusher -- World Saver with 4 8 15 16 23 42 sewn underneath it.

But I'd like the real answer. Please!

I am putting together a costume for Halloween. Titles you have seen on either blue or khaki jumpsuits are fine. So far I have Cook, Motor Pool, Workman, Physicist and Security.

The lottery numbers in Bulgaria's National Lottery have been 4, 15, 23, 24, 35 and 42 in the last TWO drawings in a row.

The Dharma Initiative numbers from LOST are 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, and 42.

How freaky is that? 4 of 6 happening not once, but twice. IN A ROW.
The simple fact of the exact same numbers happening twice in the exact same lottery. And in consecutive draws...well the odds are not exactly just coincidental to say the least. Then couple that with 4 of the 6 numbers being the numbers from LOST and it just gets weird. Yes, it is JUST a coincidence after all, but it's a really strange one at that.

I want a dharma initiative logo on my shoulder. I want to know how much they are and where they are at the fair. Please help me fellow west virginians!!

I want to hear it ALL. Your theories, your predictions, everything!

My theories include...

-Charlie (Penny and Desmond's child) Will be the man in black and Aaron will be Jacob.

-Lost is a game. A battle of good and evil. In the first episode Locke talks to Walt about a game he is playing. He says, "This is a game of one 1 piece and one black piece. And then he holds them up. When they find the mummies inside of one of the pockets are 2 rocks one black and one white. The Dharma Initiative logo is black and white.

-When we fist saw Jacob and "MIB" MIB said "Do you know how much I want to kill you?" The loop hole was that the two couldn't kill each other. They had to get some one else to do it and then they would have to take the shape of the smoke monster or other deceased characters. (Like Walt, Ana Lucia, Charlie, Boone, Eko, Yemi, etc.)

-The smoke monster will be white now because the roles are reversed. Before the "man in black" took the shape of the smoke monster.
At the very end of The Incident for the fist time EVER it showed "LOST" black on white NOT white on black.

-All of the characters are coming back. OR there will be 4 or so episodes of what it would be like if Jack's plan worked. At Comic Con 2009 Dominic Monaghan (Charlie) walked in and on his hand it said, "Am I alive?" Hmm...ALSO at Comic Con 2009 they showed a picture of ALL of the cast and it said "The Final Season" under them.

-The Black Rock is the ship in the opening scene of The Incident.

-EVERYONE on LOST is connected in some way.

-In the last season there will be a 3rd group. A good group. At Comic Con 2009 they said they will explain who dropped the food. I think a good group did.

-MIB was inside of fake Locke.

-There is something more to Vincent.

That is all I can think of. Make comments and share yours!

Please help, i want this to be awesome. Thanks! A?

And please dont tell me to "find myself" cos an sick of doing so.

In the 'Lost' tv series: before the natives of the island took over, the Dharma Initiative was heavily funded from the mainland. But after that, where did Linus' people have all the money to bring food, medical supplies, maintain all facilities and repair things, not to mention running a submarine... Moreover, when Tom goes to New York he stays in a penthouse apartment plus other minor details...

EDIT: The sub was already there, but it costs tons to maintain it. Not to mention the entire population that was supplied with commercial products, not insects and berries.

We're talking millions of dollars a year, it's not a matter of 'pulling some strings' or something like that. So the question stands!

Alright so, my best friend loves the tv show Lost. Since she is a girl and attractive, and not wanting to sound like a loser in front of her, I want to know what this show is about. Can anyone give me a run through as to what is going on, what the show is about, what the Dharma Initiative is? Honestly Wikipedia was no help and I KNOW there are some huge Lost fans here. Thanks in advance!

Spoiler alert:

I watch Lost a lot. During this season, I feel like I have been following the theme of time travel pretty well. Around the time they got into DHARMA though, someone said the show didn't make sense because none of the characters remembered being in the DHARMA initiative while they were on the island in 2004. My arguments are that Farraday said that the past is now their present, but also during the season finale, they detonated the hydrogen bomb, thus killing themselves and starting over their lives without the plane crashing. So my question is this: Does my friend still have a point?

Is it based on a real research organization? My friend, who is obsessed with Lost claims that it's real, and I think that it's made up. Who is right, evidence if you can.

I am aware the dharma initiative is some sort of scientific project. A: who is behind the dharma project? Charles whitmore finances the so-called "others"; not the dharma project. B: what is the objective; the purpose of these people who call themselves the others. C: why doesnt Richard, the old leader of the others, age at all over the years? or does he constantly go thru the time travel flashes also? D: what exactly is the smoke monster? or is that something that hasnt been revealed yet? E: is JJ abrams a great writer? or a lousy writer? His Alias series made sense in the beginning and got stupid towards the end. LOST made no sense in the beginning, and now makes sense as it comes toward the end.

Anyone who's been watching series 4/5 of lost:
you know those VW vans that the Dharma initiative use, well, I was thinking the other day that It'd amazing if i could get one of them metal dharma logos to put on the front of my VW. (Bit nerdy, I know).
Does anyone know if I could get one of these anywhere?
It truly would make my day,
Alice.

PS. I would be like Hurley when I saved the day in like the last episode of series 3 or something... that was cool. (I'd be less hairy and smaller, though)

What sort of betterment of humankind would experimenting in the Tempest bring about? What were the goals of the toxic gas experimentation in the Tempest?
I've seen every episode of Lost, yet it's just so confusing.

are you watching it right now?
Is Miles' father the guy on the orientation tapes for the Dharma Initiative??

I used to watch that show all the time like four years ago until I just gave up from frustration but I'm considering picking it up again. Are they still on the island? Is that smoke monster thing still pissing around the island? Why was a polar bear on the island? Did they ever say what the Dharma Initiative was? Is the island magic or something? Who are the others? What was the deal with that invisible guy? I've got about 500 more questions but these are just a few...Lost confused the crap out of me but I would like to know what happened

I've had my macbook for about three years, it's been dropped about two times (didn't seem to have a problem with it the two times it did drop). A few months ago it started randomly turning off and can't coup without using the battery. Also, when it turns off, I rarely can get it back on. When it does come back on, it usually works for only a few minutes before a "Dharma Initiative"-like sign pops up saying my macbook is malfunctioning. I'm thinking it's probably the motherboard, but I really have no idea.

Also, it's out of warranty, and I'm most likely not willing to pay much to get it fixed.

What do you guys think?

I'm just wondering about a few things.

A. We haven't been told as of yet exactly HOW kate managed to get aaron right, or for that matter, what she did with him just before she went over to Jacks and told him never to ask about him again.

B. We haven't found out why exactly that
the scientist doesn't seem to be a part of the dharma initiative along with Sayer et al, right....like what happened to him. Daniel Farraday i mean.

This is a serious question. Do the liberals want our society to be like that of the Dharma Initiative? It kind of seems that way to me. Jack is now a "workman" and lives in the same kind of house as Juliet and Sawyer, who are respectively a mechanic and security experts as well as Dr. Marvin Candle, who is a physicist of sorts and Horace Goodspeed who is the leader of the D.I. That does kind of seem like a utopian society in which everyone has the same quality of life no matter what they do and any one can have any job no matter what sex they are.
Dude..there is a liberal manifesto. We know how you guys are going to answer every single question. Either you are programmed or studied a book.

Note: I am not a republican.

I thought that Widmore had been ousted by Ben Linus and had begun the Dharma Initiative to gain access to the Island again in order to study time travel (which he found out about when the Oceanic Survivors when back in time) and the other weird stuff that happened on the Island.

He was a captain of industry, so I thought he had gone back in order to get money out of discoveries from the Island.

But in Lost 5X12 'What Happened, Happened' at the very end, Richard Alpert is asked what would Ellie and Charles (Widmore) think about taking young Ben to the Temple. So Widmore is still with the Hostiles at the same time as Ben is a child with the Dharma Initiative.

--> So......who began the Dharma?

--> How did the Hostiles/Others take over the 'operations' of the Dharma Initiative in the mainland in order to keep supplying the Island with goods and supplies still labelled "Dharma" ?
(remember, the Oceanic survivors get a food drop labelled 'Dharma' soon after they arrive)

--> Why are the Hostiles/Others bothering with the pretense that Dharma is still there?
The pretense is in keeping up Dharma food drops as well as Mikhail wearing the Dharma jumpsuit when meeting Locke, Sayid, Kate, & the French woman when they set out to retrieve Jack after he is taken to do surgery on Ben.
There are other instances I just can't remember them now.
The pretense of it still being Dharma is in the 2000s, not the past. This question has nothing to do with the time travel to the 70s.

i didn't follow the Lost Experience, i was just wondering (within the lost world.) what people on the outside world know about the dharma initiative and why it ended?
thanx!!!

IS it possible to accurately define Dharma?

Any reasonable answers are welcomed. From anyone.
Decent links gratefully accepted as well. :)

* No, I am NOT interested in definitions of "The Dharma Initiative." I have zero interest in "Lost" on ABC in the U.S. *

Thank you.

He was there when the flashes stopped. When they were with the people (Dharma Initiative) and he saw Charlotte. He was there on the first day. Now all there is is: Miles, Jack, Hurley, Sawyer, Kate, Sayid, Jin, and Juliet. Where is Faraday!!!! and OMG i know that Ben is a bad guy but still i can't believe that Sayid shot him. Oh yeah one more question. Why Did Sun, Ben, and Lapidus not get transferred to 1979 with everyone else? I feel so sorry for Sun. And i don't know why but there is something about Ben that makes me like him. I know he is manipulative but i still like him.

LOST - "He's Our You" The DHARMA Initiative struggles to discover the identity of Sayid Jarrah, while Sawyer tries to make sure that his secret remains safe.

Is young Ben Linus actually dead?
Who was responsible for the flaming Dharma bus? Do you think it was Ben?
How does Ilana know Sayid was responsible for the death of Peter Avellino? Did Ben tell her?
What kind of authority does she have to take Sayid into the plane with handcuffs? I know she posed as an air marshal, when she passed through security at LAX. But, is she really an air marshal or just a bounty hunter?

I've heard that when Locke goes into the ditch (either when he is originally shot by Ben or when he revisits with Ben and Hurley) you can see a Dharma jumpsuit with the name Lafleur on it. If this is true then that would mean Sawyer dies when Ben kills all of the Dharma Initiative.
If so, please let me know what episode and roughly what time you see lafleur in the ditch.

I am not sure how many people have noticed but in the last segment where Sun is holding the photograph of the Dharma initiative back in 1977, check the background there is a person right behind her! Check it out and tell me who do you think it is?

The last one I saw was the one where Sawyer and company get into the dharma initiative and Juliet delivers a baby, Sawyer talks to Richard, and they are waiting for Locke to return. Then at the end Jin comes back with Jack, Kate, and Hurley and then the show ends. I think I've only missed one episode, but I'm not sure. And when will a rerun of wednesday's episode be on TV?

Okay, let's see if I can phrase this right. I'm so excited that it's back on! (It was a rerun last week.) I'm watching it right now and some of these might be answered in this episode...
1. If Sawyer Jin, and Juliette are in the Dharma Initiative, does that mean they were in the original one...and didn't know? Like the scientist guy..(what's his name again? Charlotte's boyfriend...) Remember he asked someone if they were absolutely sure they had never been on the island...And Charlotte told him she had grown up on the island and he was the "scary man" who lived there. The whole time traveling thing confuses me! :)
2. Some of these new passengers--the ones on flight 316--have we seen them on any previous episodes? Some of them don't seem as horror struck as they should be after just going through a plane crash...
3. What do you think about Sawyer and Juliette? Do you think he will go back to Kate?
4. Basically, what do you think about Ben? I don't dislike him, but I don't trust him either...
5. Any other theories? What do you think about the time traveling? I think it could get a little too confusing and the producers are going to need to be careful not to go too far with it. But, the whole show could have gone a "little too far" and it hasn't (yet)...I love it!:)
Oops, forgot: Where are Rose and Bernard?! They didn't get on a boat to the freighter, and we haven't seen them since before the 'flashes' started.

My fellow Lostanians and I think the thing is a new breed of animal that the DHARMA Initiative lost control of.

Do you think they will continue will Sawyer meeting up with JACK?? Or will they jump back to LOCKE??? Will we find out some secrets of what the heck the Dharma initiative WAS...since Sawyer seems to be in charge??

What the heck happened to SUN??

A few seasons ago a van was found on the island there was a skeleton in a dharma initiative jump suit...what was the name of the person who was a part of the Dharma Initiative that had died in the van...Sawyer, Charlie and Hurley found the van and rode it down a hill...

and the week before that?
and the week before that?

man, season 5 gets better and better as each week goes by.

HOLY FUNK!

what do you think of this war Charles Widmore was talking about?
i think the Oceanic 6 and the rest of the losties have a lot more work to do like saving the Dharma Initiative from the Purge and saving Jacob from Ben.

and i can't believe they're stuck in 1970's era Dharma!
so now Jack, Kate, Hurley, James "Sawyer/LaFleur" Ford, Juliet, Miles, Horace Goodspeed, a young Benjamin Linus, a young Charlotte, Richard Alpert, Charles Widmore, Danielle Rousseau and lots of other peoples are all on the island together.

ok, and what about the friggin' four-toed statue!?

i'm doing research on egyptian gods and came across Taweret.
Very early in Egyptian history, Taweret became seen as a deity of protection in pregnancy and childbirth. Pregnant women wore amulets with her name or likeness to protect their pregnancies. And on occasion she carried an ankh, the symbol of life, or a knife, which would be used to threaten evil spirits.

The statue was holding two ankhs and Amy took ankh necklace from Paul and successfully gave birth to a baby boy.

After three years I'd have to imagine that Sawyer and the rest would get to see, or even take part in, some of the odder experiments that were happening at the Dharma Initiative (such as the one Linus's "daughter's" boyfriend was subjected to). When are they going to explain that, or are they going to ignore it (like they're doing to season 2).
And it's pretty ridiculous that the black smoke hasn't come up in 2 seasons now, I think that has something to do with Richard and those Others.

are we going to look like the Dharma Initiative? And well, we know what happened to them. Should we just try to move the island?

Y'know the show LOST? Well it's been going a while and has pretty much done everything possible to give its audience a serious mindfuck.

Some examples off the top of my head being polar bears on a tropical island, smoke monster, ship in the middle of the island, island can cure disease, the others, flash backs, flash forwards, the giant 4 toed statue, the dharma initiative, moving the island, seeing dead people, uncountable new characters all with unexplained pasts...

And now in series 5 they add time travel to the list. Possibly the single most complicated and confusing element any show can add to its story.

So I ask...can LOST do anything to be any more confusing?

I never watch Lost at all (lol) but i'm quite intriguing to know more about Dharma Initiative.

May someone summarize it for me what is the whole thing about?
and 1 more why is there a polar bear in a tropical island? 5 star + best answer for a good summary.

Thanks

Or the Real name of it like, The Hanso foundation song or something.

I was watching the "LOST" Season 1-4 recap before the season premiere of Season 5 started. I was pretty sure that I had seen every episode until I saw a scene showing Jack and Kate living together and having an argument in the recap. They looked like they were engaged?! Did the writers make this up or did I miss an episode? If so, what season and episode was it? The Dharma Initiative thanks you! hahaha

at the end, right before locke saves juliet/sawyer, did anyone else see a face that looked like that one guy who was a part of the dharma initiative, with an eye patch, who lived on his own and operated the communication center? it was really weird and he only appeared for a few seconds, but it definitely looked like him.
i meant the second part of the first episode, "the lie". and btw it is the 2nd episode.

How did Locke wind up dead in a coffin and off the island?

Who was the white haired lady at the end?

Where did the extra people come from? The mixed couple (Rose and ?) and Neil the whiner?

How did Sun wind up married to the guy who was just then making the Dharma initiative training tapes (wasn't that in the past?)? And why was Daniel in that Dharma tunnel wearing a hard hat if he was a scientist?

How did the Scottish guy get stuck pressing a button to save the world every 108 minutes?

Who were the smoke monsters?
Why is Jeremy Bentham called Locke?

Who are the "red shirts"?

I know he has multiple names.. but i dont know what any or them are??
ghelpppp

I need some quick last mintue ideas for his LOST themed birthday party. He's a big fan of the series, and I've printed out a bunch of Dharma initiative symbols to stick over labels on party treats. Any other good ideas?

I have been watching the program religiously from season 1 and although many fans have jumped ship I have stuck by it. The number of unanswered questions are still immense. I don't believe there has even been an explanation to the polar bears which appeared in season 1. The weird smoke, the time warps, the strange thing with Hurleys lottery numbers, the way Desmond could predict the future, the hatch, the purpose of the Dharma initiative, the apparant super powers of Ben and many many more.

Do you have faith that all of these mysteries will be resolved in the last series which will be 2009-2010?
